Quentin Blake Studies and Attempts

Let's face it, Blake's degree of charm is difficult to achieve. The first image is an original and a quick attempt at his style. The second is a combination of studies from the artist's work and a few more of my own feeble attempts.

Platypus the Barbarian

Never has a Monotreme been infused with the primal fighting skills of the barbarian. He is so mighty!

R is for...

Ummm... my brain is still filled with bunnies. It's a little embarrassing. I feel like I could spend a bunch more time on making this even better, but the day draws to a close I must get this posted. I was trying to make this less washed-out. I focused a lot on making the bunnies and the rocket pop out from the background.

UPA Exploration

I just got a new assignment at work to illustrate a series of five books. The best thing about it is that I can use pretty much any style I want! Since this is some exploration for that project, I can't be sure if this is cheating or not but it does correspond to a style that I have been wanting to explore for a while... oh, and I had fun!

Not all of this is done in the full UPA style, but I'd really like to find something similar to it's simplicity and tweaked it to make it a little different. I still think that I should do some full on studies (copying) to really understand UPA sensibilities.

And from Friday

Call this backlog I guess. Or was this Thursday? Crap. Don't remember. Anyway, digital painting is one of those things I'm rubbish at, so there may be some here now and again. This just feels so washed out when I look at it. Sadness.

Marcos Mateu-Mestre Emulation

Didn't want to go to bed tonight with something cool. Been storyboarding all day, so it's only appropriate for me to emulate a storyboarder whose name I cannot remember consistently nor pronounce properly. Next time I'll try to do this WITHOUT CTRL+Z.

Fred

Everyone, I'd like you to meet Fred. There are some glaringly obvious design mistakes here: tangents, parallels etc... but I guess that's not what this blogs about.
